Service Tip

Do you hear a thump when you shift gears or put your automatic in gear?

Don't panic, it may not be your rear end.  There are several causes beside a failing differential.  Check all u-joints and make sure the u-bolts and nuts are tight.  Then check the front differential bushing.  When new, the top and lower bushing are the same thickness but over time the upper bushing compresses and allows the front of the differential to pivot up and down.  This a a good area to consider a poly bushing instead of rubber.

Rear end making a howling or wining noise?

When was the last time your fluid was changed?   The Corvette differential is not service friendly since there is not drain plug.  The fluid must be suctioned out from the fill plug.  I strongly recommend against drilling a drain hole since the  Corvette casing is not strong to begin with and the addition of a drain hole could result in cracks in the casing.  When refilling use only GM  fluid and be sure to use the GM Posi-Traction additive.  When done go out and do several figure-eights to lubricate the frictions discs.

Come in and have your differential serviced and we will inspect empty and refill your differential with GM fluids, inspect your u-joints and lube your suspension.  Our low cost service will assure that your driveline is solid.
